SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) treatment

Most people have had problems with their guts for years. If left untreated, these gut issues can lead to a variety of health problems.

SIBO, or Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth, is a problem in the gut that can lead to serious health problems.

What is SIBO?

SIBO refers to a condition in which there is an excessive amount of bacteria in your stomach.

There are trillions of bacteria in the gut that is essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. You can divide these bacteria into good bacteria or bad bacteria. There is an overgrowth in bad bacteria due to certain underlying conditions. SIBO is caused by the overgrowth of bad bacteria.

SIBO is characterized by an overgrowth of or excess of bad bacteria in the small intestine.

Although it's very different to IBS, SIBO is often misdiagnosed as IBS.

It is important to identify and treat any gut issues early in order to improve your overall health.

How to Diagnose SIBO?

A biopsy of your intestines was the best way to determine if SIBO has occurred.

With the development of more sophisticated tests, it is possible to do simple breath tests to diagnose SIBO. This test is known as Hydrogen and Methane breath Test. This test measures the amount of hydrogen in your breath and determines if you have SIBO.

Other breath tests include lactose and glucose breath tests.

The lactose test is my favorite among them all. It's more sensitive and specific in diagnosing SIBO.

How do You treat SIBO?

Conventional medicine uses antibiotics to kill the bad bacteria. This will temporarily resolve SIBO symptoms.

The downside is that antibiotics can kill not only bad bacteria, but also cause imbalance in the gut microbiome. This can cause SIBO and other problems.

Functional Medicine Doctors make a comprehensive treatment plan for SIBO.

I have created a 3-step comprehensive protocol to heal your body, and treat SIBO.

The 3 step treatment plan includes -

  • Reduce inflammation in your gut to improve your immunity.
  • Get rid of the bad bacteria that has grown to be too much
  • Good bacteria can restore your gut microbe balance

This protocol does not include Harsh antibiotics, which can have many side effects. Instead, I use natural herbal antibiotics which have been proven equally effective in treating SIBO. Research studies have shown that natural oral antibiotics may provide a more lasting relief from SIBO symptoms.

It is also important to determine the root cause of SIBO. This is a critical step that most doctors overlook. We can identify the root cause of SIBO using a variety of testing methods and help you reverse it.

Restoring healthy microbiome balance is the last thing you need to do. Without this, SIBO can quickly return within a few weeks or months. SIBO symptoms have returned in many patients who I have seen. Their doctor did not help them restore their microbiome balance.
